Dinner and a movie

Liz Gilbert, main character of the film “Eat, Love, and Pray” appears to be a woman with a perfect life. She is viewed as someone who has it all, a loving husband, excellent career, and a weekend home. Although this is what it seems like, Liz slowly realizes that she hasn’t obtained what she truly wants from life. After a terribly painful divorce from her husband, the woman who had once looked forward to a happy life in the comforts of home set out to seek her true destiny. She starts by traveling first to Italy; there she learned to appreciate nourishment. There are many different types of food she tries there and devours; in one scene she devours a simple bowl of pasta with so much emotion. Throughout the movie it also shows her eating gelati, having a Sardinian wine with friends and finds the best tasting pizza she has ever tried. Next she went to India, where she discovered the power of prayer; and lastly to Bali, where she found the most unexpected but best thing of all; the meaning of true love. I rate this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. This movie has a good representation of not only a person seeking a goal in life but from the perspective of a foodie it shows many different types of foods from culture. I believe that although one third of the title’s name has “eat” in it there weren’t enough enhancements on food. Overall this was a great movie and one I recommend to any food lover.
There were many different aspects of this movie that inspired me to make the meals I chose to make. For my main course I made Italian shrimp macaroni, with certain alters made by myself to reflect on the origins of the movie. I added tandoori masala a very, famous and well known spice in Indian culture to the pasta to represent the spice of life she found in India. Although I have never heard or seen anyone put cardamom to the pasta, I put half a teaspoon because cardamom is a very popular spice Indonesians opt to putting in their food. The reason I chose cardamom from all other popular Indonesian spices such as black pepper, turmeric and red chilli was because when I was going through my pantry this was the spice that made me feel a sense of love. The aroma of cardamom was a soft beautiful smell not harsh to the nose and I thought the scent of this was a good representation of the true love
Liz found in Indonesia. The inspiration of pasta came from when Liz was devouring a bowl of pasta in one scene of the movie. My main course was represented in Italy but, the two other countries Liz travelled to inspire certain elements of alteration in the recipe.
I used the avocado smoothies as dessert because when  coming up with a meal plan, I thought to myself, “what is an exotic fruit or vegetable that allows one to become flustered in a array of emotions?” and not to long after I was presented with the idea of the avocado. This fruit is not only rich in flavors, ( which in the movie is presented in a very high degree) with a slight tanginess which can be an interpretation of the ups and downs in life that lead you to find
your inner self and know what you really stand for.
